Finally, they shake on it. "Master Rose will be pleased," the captain says, dryly. "And relieved. I doubt the Duc would have been pleased with him if I'd proved unreasonable. And may I say, Major, that you are a most reasonable man yourself?"

Geert still has the grimace he calls a smile on his face. He offers a handshake on his own, rising as he does. "The last person who called me that - I think I pushed his spine out his back from the front. Didn't I, Gus?"

"Technically, he didn't say you were reasonable, he said he was sure you would be reasonable," Gus points out. "And that resulted in quite a bit of damage to your battlesuit and you promised me you wouldn't do that again. You then hedged and added, "Without more provocation."

Captain Jean smiles, perhaps a bit wanly. "Well, for your sake, Sergeant, I will endeavor not to provoke the Major. To that degree."
