Two things. First, a ( link to Diamond and Liu sideRP. )

Second, Diamond and Phoenix sideRP.

Diamond Borealis emerges from the hold. He's made himself a small 'office' down there, by using some of the crates to wall off an area where he can work. Light spills out at odd hours, occasionally even a burst of Anima. Those riding in the hold have occasionally even invited some of the rescued slaves to step inside for measurements. One afternoon, however, he emerges from his impromptu workshop and ascends tot he deck, looking for PM.

Phoenix Maiden is on the deck, working out; sailors stay well back from where she spins, whirls and thrusts, her spear moving within a shower of sparking motes of Essence as she takes advantage of the lack of secrecy to practice the ways to aid her skill with Essence.

Diamond Borealis leans against a mast, watching her work. He has a sheaf of paper crumpled in his fist. Grinning beneath the brim of his hat, he watches her move. Admiring not in a lascivious way, but in her control of Essence, and the poetic lethality of a Circlemate.

Phoenix Maiden's motion brings her around facing Diamond; seeing him there, she swings the spear down and to casual rest, butt on the deck and shaft across her shoulder, and wipes sweat from her Caste-marked brow, peering. "What brings you out of your lair?" she asks cheerfully.

Diamond Borealis holds up the papers and gives them a little wave. A corner of the tattered papyrus flicks in the breeze. "I wanted to see what you think of an idea I had." He straightens up and walks...no, saunters toward her. His cocky demeanor is hard to believe, harder even that it came from before he Exalted. He straightens them out and displays a design. At first glance it is a sketch of a human hand and another of a foot; bones, muscle and ligament all. On closer inspection, the notes are clearly on using materials like brass and bronze and rubber.

Phoenix Maiden examines the design closely, leaning forward. Her eyes flick intelligently over the paper as she tries to decipher the notes, and then looks up from them again, to the Twilight. "These are, I imagine, prosthetics?"

Diamond Borealis gives a nod of his head. "First draft of them. But that's not going to work. It'd be too heavy and cumbersome and trying to get it to interface with the rest of the body...well, since Mortals can use their Essence it would be tricky." He is still smiling though, suggesting he has a solution in mind.

Phoenix Maiden nods slightly and glances down at the paper again. "You'd have to find something to power them..." She trails off and raises an eyebrow quizzically. "Something in mind for it?"

Diamond Borealis takes the papers, slips the first under the second. Grinning at her supposition as he moves the papers. The second one is filled with copious notes and a few more sketches. Of a greenhouse. "Othak gave me some King Vine seeds. I should be able to grow them so that they take the shapes of arms, legs, hands and feet. Teach a couple of them thaumaturgy and they should be able to guide the growth, and then perform the ritualised necessary to attach them. Since it's a living prosthetic..." He trails off, figuring she'll pick up from there. "So what do you think?"

Phoenix Maiden raises the other eyebrow to join the first. "Do you think their thaumaturgy could be potent enough to do that?" She taps a finger to her lips. "If it can be done, I am certainly for it. It is due time for some true stories to counteract the Dragon-bloodeds' lies."

Diamond Borealis gives a firm nod of his head. "I'd probably have to build it in a Manse, maybe create a spell to facilitate it. But from fragments I've read, Solars of old had massive Factory-Cathedrals that could create things to make this look like child's play. I'll need to get a couple of folks to volunteer once I get further along. But if it can work..." He pauses, considering. "We may even be able to adapt Dragon King techniques for awakening their young to awakening mortal ability to use and increase Essence. They may never be as powerful as us, but..."

Phoenix Maiden nods thoughtfully. "I do note that any power we give them may make them targets for Dragon-blooded revenge. Where they can not strike us, they may strike at those we have empowered." She smiles a thinlipped smile. "And I do intend to give the Realm much to resent." She waves a hand dismissively. "However, if they volunteer despite the danger... soldiers risk their lives." She shrugs, child of a warrior culture, and moves on. "Finding a convenient manse to use might be a challenge, though."

"It depends. I've noticed I still tend to think in the timespans of a mortal; days, weeks and months. We can plan for months, years, decades or even centuries. But if we can take Harborhead, there are Manses there we could claim. Or Demenses to be taken or even created." Diamond takes of his hat and scratches his head. "But I think there would be volunteers, more than we could potentially use even with the danger of reprisals. And as much as I would like to have it all done like that..." He snaps a finger sharply, "Some plans take much longer to reach fruition. It's best we lay the groundwork for it now."

Phoenix Maiden's face is bland, just a hint of a smile on her lips. "We will take Harborhead," she says, "Harborhead will take itself. The yoke does not rest easily on our shoulders, and with guidance..." She shrugs. "So you do not mean to proceed with this before we reach the Lap and attempt the recovery of Swan Dragon," she states, half as a question.

Diamond Borealis shakes his head at that question. "No. I've got to build a safe workshop to test the seeds first. Those King Vines can be dangerous and playing with them on the ship could be dangerous. As much as I would like to see these men and women restored to full health, I can't do it. Yet. But I will do it. I have a feeling if it works, we'll have some very devoted mortals willing to do whatever they can to aid us. You'll be prepared for that." He sounds confident of her. A measure of the fact he has come to trust her judgement. "I want them to have the opportunity to be as excellent as they can be."

Phoenix Maiden gives a single, solid nod. "Mortals devoted to our cause can only aid; if they can be awakened to greater power, so much the better."

Diamond Borealis smiles at that and takes a great breath of the sea. "We can do this, Phoenix Maiden. We can reshape the whole of Creation just as I can reshape ore into a sword or breastplate." The momentary optimism fades, buried beneath his features again like old ruins swallowed by deep jungle. "Slavery has to end, even if it breaks the Guild and the Realm." There's more venom in his voice for the Guild about that than even for the Yozi they faced.

Phoenix Maiden's eyes widen briefly at the venom, but her intensity matches his venom. "We strike a blow just by freeing Harborhead. They mine my home for flesh as surely as they do jade." A shadow of anger covers her face. "The Realm's special slaving fields. I do not know where the Guild harvests their crop, but that, too..." There are many teeth in her white, white smile. "...must be stopped."

Diamond Borealis gives a firm nod. "Good. I am glad we are in agreement. Too many in this day see it as an unfortunate necessity, or blather about a slave mentality. The only slave mentality is that of the Guild, wasting so much potential, losing so much knowledge because they refused to seek a better way. The Yozi and the Fae and the Dead do as they do, because they are as they are. But mortals are able to chose, and to chose so foolishly..." He shakes his head, spitting over the side of the ship.

Phoenix Maiden's tone is dry, and absolutely certain. "There is no such thing as a slave mentality. Even where they have been broken, spirits can be raised."

Diamond Borealis gives a nod of his head at that. "Can, and should. We fought the makers of the world to see that yoke lifted from gods and mortals alike. The mortal soul desires freedom, and deserves it." He turns to her and smiles, putting a hand on her shoulder and giving a squeeze. He tilts his head, "I've always hated it, you know. My parents hated it, and their parents. My mother still works with the Liberators in Nexus."

Phoenix Maiden quietly comments, "Harborhead has always been a land of slavery. I never much thought of it until I left my home village." She shrugs. "Since then, I have thought on it much. And it is what our patron has asked of me."

Diamond Borealis smiles and takes his hand from her shoulder. "I don't know that he asked it of me. But I chose it long before I got my little light show." He taps his forehead. "I'm going back down below. I need to check those recovering from our medicine, make sure everything is coming along." That said, he turns, heading toward the hold.
