I owe an apology to some of my fellow residents of this state.

I'm very sorry. I was sure that horrible offense against good fiscal policy would pass. I underestimated the intelligence of about 17 percent of you (because I knew, of course, not EVERYONE would vote for it).

To the 42 odd percent who did: Are you THAT damn stupid? Do you LIKE paying taxes? Where do you think the money to pay off businesses (the primary 'victims' of zoning laws and environmental laws being polluting businesses and egregious developers) was going to come from, if not out of the pocket of Sally Taxpayer? Were they just not going to pay and issue waivers?

And what did you think was going to happen to the value of your home when that high rise condo that was previously illegal went up and cut off your view? Or the factory went in next door despite the residential zoning and made noise and foul smells 24/7?

It would have been a goldmine for a handful of businesses and an albatross for the rest of us, who would have had to bear the burden of paying for it or paying for it.

Anyhow, to the 58 or so percent of you with brains, thank you very much. It's nice to live in a state where laws apply to everyone, not just those who can't blackmail the government.
