Brian says "Okies. Switching away from Kanfi for now... what are the rest of you doing currently?"

Liu was watching Kanfi's back.

<<OOC>> Aidan says "I would've been with PM, probably. Doing my "I look dangerous, look at me" act.""

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden intends to start putting her newest Charm to use promptly. >_>

<<OOC>> Aidan says "New charms?"

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Tiger-Warrior Training Technique! And she'll invite any of the others who are willing to help her."

<<OOC>> Aidan oooohs.

Brian says "So..."

Brian says "PM is going to be training the crew. And the rest of you?"

<<OOC>> Aidan says "Combat training with the three combat Solars?"

<<OOC>> Aidan likes combat training.

Brian chuckles. Certainly a possibility.

Brian says "Liu?"

Liu will certainly participate in more training.

Brian says "Alrighty. PM, you've got 30-odd sailors plus about 10ish officers, not counting the seniors you've already talked to, to train. I'd like some descriptive poses of what you intend to do first; then I'd like Aidan and Liu to pick up from that on how they'll be helping you."

Phoenix Maiden recruits a couple of sailors to help her clear a spot on the deck for practice, and pulls as many of the crew as can be spared from handling the ship to train there; she has no stockpile of uniform spears to train them with - and no space for spear practice without them sticking each other - so she focuses on the most basic elements of combat: reflexes and speed, setting them to drills until they can move faster, and even faster. She encourages; she distracts; she tries to get them to react defensively to unexpected assaults.

Liu is an inveterate performer, and so stands far to Phoenix Maiden's side, paying perfect attention to her and smoothly executing and displaying the exercises Phoenix Maiden commands. She does, for these purposes, downplay her own prowess to mere mortal levels. She looks only well-trained, not fearsomely talented. But well-trained, competent, and someone you would feel safer for fighting next to.

Aidan is not a performer at heart, rather a warrior. Simple demonstrations hold little appeal. But he stands and watches nonetheless. An idea strikes him, and he turns towards Liu. "She gives them training in defensive postures. Perhaps we give them a demonstration of something a bit more grand, to inspire them?"

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden could use Aidan's help coming UP With drills. She's NOT an unarmed fighter. >_>

<<OOC>> Brian grins. "Aidan? What sort of drills would you run? :)

<<OOC>> Aidan knows much of drills, and for mortals even. "I was, after all, a mortal when the Immaculates first began my training in the Arts."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Which is why she's concentrating on getting them to react, and react quickly, when things happen. WHAT the reactions are can be handled once she gets weapons in their hands. >_>"

<<OOC>> Brian gently pushes suchness IC.

<<OOC>> Aidan says "Is waiting for Liu's response."

MAIL: Mailbox purged.

<<OOC>> Aidan says "She looked like she wanted to play a bit when she interrupted my Kata earlier. Giving her the chance again."

Liu grins widely at Aidan, and turns to look at Phoenix Maiden. "Maybe you should ask her what she wants, though. I wouldn't want to... " shrugs a little and looks at the fervently loyal faces of the sailors and crew "...break the spell." She pokes him in the side, hand a swift blur. "I could take you, though."

Aidan strides over to where Phoenix Maiden is leading the sailors in drill. "Would you care for suggestions, lady?" He waits for some sign of confirmation before proceeding. "In my youth, I was trained in martial arts by the Immaculates. We often began with a demonstration by the elders, to instill the proper degree of awe and burning fervor to excel." He motions towards Liu to join him up front. "By your leave?"

Liu will certainly participate in more training.

Phoenix Maiden nods to Aidan gratefully. "I'm limited in what I can teach them without weapons in their hands."

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "What happened with the chick the Cap'n was Lewinksi-ing?"

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Kanfi Eclipsed her brain."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Something like 12 successes on his Eclipsery roll. >_>"

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis remembers that from the session. But did we ever learn anything from her/get to question her after he Eclipsed her?

Aidan says "We were taught that it is not the weapon that is dangerous, it is the one who wields it." Here he pauses to remove the Talons and set them aside, to emphasize his point. "Even unarmed and unarmored, it is the knowledge and the strength of muscles that is important.""

<<OOC>> Aidan says "Nothing of note. And no Kanfi this week to provide more data."

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "Ah."

Phoenix Maiden shrugs. "And I grew up and trained in Harborhead, where's it's practically indecent to be unarmed. By all means, more appropriate drills to work them on would be appreciated."

Aidan says "Drills are easy enough to come by, I still remember many from my days in the monastery. But first, the demonstration to get them in the proper frame of mind." With this he steps up in front of the sailors struggling mightily with Phoenix Maiden's drills. "Your attention for a moment, please." He does not raise his voice, instead forcing the sailors to attend carefully to hear him. "Know that we are pleased with your efforts. Your strength and discipline shows great promise." He motions Liu up next to him on the platform. "Witness now a demonstration of what is possible with strength and discipline."

Diamond Borealis has little interest in training the sailors in how to fight; he's far more the warrior than the soldier. So, as usual, he is in his workshop below decks, working toward some esoteric goal. He's been particularly grumpy, even for him, since the Captain's disappearance.

Phoenix Maiden nods to any of the sailors who look at her, standing aside to let Liu and Aidan have their attention.

Liu dashes up next to Aidan and grins brightly at him.

Brian says "The crowd of sailors created by PM's voice has grown to include everyone not on duty, though the hastily-reawakened officers are keeping SOME on shift to keep the ship sailing well. The rest form an awed circle around Liu and Aidan."

Brian [to Diamond Borealis]: What're you setting up?

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "Well, I was hoping to have talked with Kanfi and whatshername about the Captain to get some personal effect of his. So that's a 'I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing' sort of pose."

Aidan whispers to Liu, as the sailors gather around to watch. "Attack me now. Weapons or unarmed, your choice. Don't hold back, we want to make this look good." He then goes into a meditative pose, both feet together, both hands tucked inside the opposite sleeve. His eyes close for a moment as he attunes to the local flows of Essence.

<<OOC>> Brian says "Ah, okay."

<<OOC>> Aidan says "I'm going to bring up Flow Like Blood from personal, and abort to full dodge/parry on every round. I'm figuring that unless Liu uses offensive charms, that can be considered impenetrable defense. ^_^"

<<OOC>> Brian says "Figure that the cabin has had some personal effects-- or things you think might be-- clothing, pens used, etc."

<<OOC>> Brian chuckles. "Alright, sounds good, Aidan.

<<OOC>> Liu says "No offensive charms right now."

<<OOC>> Brian says "Pose away. :)"

Liu backs up two feet and crouches low, then growls fiercely and launches herself at Aidan, flipping feet over head to drive her heels hard into his chest and chin.

<<OOC>> Brian says "Do you guys want to roll, or just assume it works out how you pose it, with Aidan's defense nigh-perfect?"

<<OOC>> Liu says "I'm down with just posing it with Aidan's defense nigh perfect. I started to pose her missing, too, but I didn't want to proscribe how Aidan dodged."

<<OOC>> Brian nodnods. "Go ahead."

Aidan allows his knees to buckle, falling down and away from Liu's fierce attack, catching himself on one hand as her momentum carries her through the space his just vacated.

Liu's body sails harmlessly past Aidan as she tucks into a ball to land rolling and stand smoothly, facing the Hunter, grinning a feral little smile. The light and warmth of the Sun overhead pour into her body, and she takes a deep breath and exhales, Essence settling into her joints and muscles.

<<OOC>> Liu says "Spending 15 motes for Increasing Dexterity Exercise which adds three dice to my dexterity rolls. :) I don't think I have to worry about flare-ups, because I also have Acrobatics Concealment Method."

<<OOC>> Brian grins. "Niiiinja.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "You people are scary."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden clings to her spear.

<<OOC>> Aidan says "Like I said. It not the weapon, it's the wielder. :D"

In his workshop, Diamond is not working on sketches or designs of new wonders. The prosthetic limbs, weapons for Liu, and a girdle to improve his sorcerous might and understanding are all safely tucked away. Instead he has a number of scrolls and books rolled out on his table. He pours carefully over them, taking notes on a separate blank sheet. His quill scribbles translations of those older texts so that his notes are all in one language. His lips are pressed together, deep in thought, the faintest light glowing on Diamond's forehead as he searches through Lore about the Yozi. That even the hardened explorer and adventurer sometimes blanches at the descriptions of the First Circle Demons and their purposes speaks of their vileness.

Aidan stands up quickly and turns to face Liu. A smile comes to face as he settles into a combat pose and awaits her next attack.

Liu dives, quick as you please, for the floor at Aidan's feet. Her hands reach to grasp his ankles, to hold onto him while she arches upwards, her back bending to an impossibly acute curve, and kicks one heel after the other at his left kidney.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says, "See, this is why I have a spear. I can keep the scary people at least arms length from me."

Brian [to Diamond Borealis]: The first of your investigations takes you past description of the chief of the Yozis in their exile. It is not Malfeas, once ruler of all that was, for he is broken and defeated, the city-prison. No, it is instead the Ebon Dragon, the Shadow of All That Lives. Every living thing that casts a shadow touches upon the Ebon Dragon and his brood.

Aidan allows for Liu's dive, wondering a bit at her purpose. Then twists in place, hands coming up to catch her feet as they strike at him. He holds for only a moment before untwisting violently, using the momentum to spin free from Liu's grasp on his ankles.

Her feet caught, Liu flows with Aidan's movement and releases his ankles, sweeping her body upwards, outwards, then back in towards his head and shoulders. Slender grasping hands pull his cowl down over his face to stop his vision.

Diamond Borealis leans back from his studies. He rubs the bridge of his nose as if he were a scholar who's spectacles were pinching him. He exhales slowly. "Wonderful." He murmurs to himself. To summon one of the Ebon Dragon's brood gives him pause. Though all of the Yozi are alien to Humanity, not all are inimical to it. That the chief of the Yozi is where he must begin his search troubles him. He takes a breath and begins searching through the scrolls for those lower demons that flow from the pinnacle of the Ebon Dragon that might be able to stalk this Sidereal across the face of Creation.

<<OOC>> Aidan says "Looks nifty, but Flow Like Blood doesn't require perception. :-) I think I'll leave the cowl that way for a bit."

Aidan steps in close as Liu regains her feet, throwing a couple of quick strikes towards her position, moving with speed but no power, in case he happens to connect.

Phoenix Maiden stands to the side, calmly watching the more dexterous members of her party and quietly very glad she doesn't have to fight like that.

Liu dodges Aidan's blows with a touch of gracelessness, since her drive here is to be offensive, not defensive. She casts her eyes about herself, looking for something to use as a weapon -- wanting to impress upon the trainees that you're really never weaponless if you've got a brain. A deck-swab nearby becomes a quarterstaff, and she moves back in towards Aidan, trying to press him backwards with short quick strokes and jabs towards his center and neck.

Brian says "While at the start of the fight, there were numerous cheers and oohs and ahs from the crowd, those have all gone away. The deck is utterly silent, save from the creaking of the ship or the snapping of the wind on sails. Even those sounds are silent now, as all watch the incredible display of prowess before them."

Aidan holds his ground, refusing to be pushed back. He is forced to parry now, as well as just dodge, and his hands are a flickering blur as strike after strike is turned harmlessly aside. The demonstration is reaching a crescendo now, and it needs only an appropriate finisher. He waits until Liu releases an especially powerful strike and reaches out quickly with both hands, attempting to catch her makeshift staff in midswing and freeze the pose.

Liu feels a shudder through her shoulders as Aidan's powerful hands stop a downward swing that had her full (though admittedly paltry) strength behind it. She pants, not out of tiredness, but from the electricity of the combat dance that thrums through her body. Her golden eyes focus on his cowled face intently, and she does not move a muscle until he does.

Phoenix Maiden lets the silence hold as the crew watches Liu and Aidan, with a storyteller's eye for drama knowing the moment should be let linger.

Aidan allows himself a broad smile, knowing that his still-raised cowl will hide his expression from all but Liu. "You fight well. A most unusual style, but effective nonetheless." He releases the staff and bows as he steps back. When he straightens again, his cowl is pushed back and his face is once again impassive. He turns to the assembled and bows again. "One day, this too can be within your grasp." His voice is confident, assured. After all, he came up from nothing to become this, others may as well.

Diamond Borealis finds no Third Circle Souls of the Ebon Dragon which seem to fit his purpose. While through Erembor, Alveua holds some potential, the Copper Spider finds none of her progeny fit his needs. He begins to search again and finds instead greater potential in Cecelyne, the Endless Desert which bounds Malfeas and keeps the Yozi imprisoned. Orabilis, The End of All Wisdom, and keeper of the laws of Mafleas. From there he learns of Lucien, the Expressive Soul of Orabilis, one

of many souls. Tracker and spy; it is withing that demons progeny where Diamond believes he will find the right creature to serve their purpose.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Since you were both using Charms, that's a little unfair! Though I suppose, the could, potentially, get similar prowess if they get god-blooded endowments or something. :p"

Brian says "It takes a few seconds of stunned silence for the crew to finish regathering their wits after your incredible performance. As it is done, they break into a storm of cheers and applause that it takes quite a while for the officers to break down into order again-- especially since they have to calm down themselves. Swiftly, all of the off-duty sailors slip into the prescribed drills, working under the excellent examples and tutelage provided for them by the trio on deck."

Liu lets the mop fall to the deck with a clatter and bows formally to Aidan as he bows to her, stepping backwards while he addresses the trainees.

Brian says "As for below-- Diamond, once you get your decided-upon First Circle there, we'll slip back into abstract for a bit. :)"

<<OOC>> Aidan says "It's a question of belief, though. Motivation. (Which I'm sort of cheating on, because I have no charms or direct training in leadership. But I figure I can get away with my feeble attempts to copy that which I experienced as a young initiate.)"

Brian [to Phoenix Maiden]: I don't believe TWTT requires any rolls, correct?

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "It does not."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Merely week long commitment of ten motes."

Phoenix Maiden continues to train the sailors, using the drills Aidan recommends as more appropriate without a handy supply of weapons.

"The Muignii, the Ravens with Feathered Eyes." Diamond finds that which he seeks after many hours of research. He begins to decipher the ancient description of the lowly demon. They serve their progenitor Lucien not as enforces, but as adjuncts to the eyes of Orabilis, flying over Malfeas, their dark wings spread wide. And upon each pinion is a iridescent eye that sees all beneath its sweep, missing little. They circle above the city watching for those that violate the laws of the Yozi and call back to their Master when they spot such trespass. When someone transgresses and attempts to hide, it is the Muignii who track them down. Their hundreds of eyes able to follow trails of Essence left behind by a demon's passage. In Creation, given an object important to the target, they can hunt them the length and breadth of the world, reporting back to a sorcerer where the target has gone to ground. So long as the person is in Creation, the Muignii can find them.

Brian says "Ahh. Nice one, Diamond. :) Okay. Anyone have objections to moving back to abstract time?"

<<OOC>> Liu says "Sure."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden does not.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden would hate to have to RP out weeks of training. ;P

Brian [to Phoenix Maiden]: Okay. There's about two weeks left 'till landfall, which, unfortunately, is about as long as it's going to take you to get that proper 'week' of training in, since all of the sailors do have duty eventually.

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "Danke."

Brian [to Diamond Borealis]: We've got a good set-up there. How do you plan to deal with the summoning? What are you planning on doing for the summoning itself? Are you telling the rest of your circle? When do you plan to summon?

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "First, I want to get to land where I can make a proper summoning spot. He'll need to find the nest of a raven, a couple slivers of the Starmetal, and a few objects of seeming importance to the Captain. He may need to involve the Quartermaster in it as well."

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "And yes, I plan to tell the Circle."

Liu Liu believes in Diamond!!! Also wants no part of magic.

<<OOC>> Liu says "Ugh, oops."

<<OOC>> Brian Chuckles. "Okay. We'll need to wait on the quartermaster until Kanfi comes back; do you guys want to RP out that meeting without him, or shall we call it an early session and pick up on the meeting, landfall, and summoning next week at 11am PST?"

<<OOC>> Aidan says "I'm down with stopping here. Seems a logical place."

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis is up for some RP around Diamond describing his idea to the group.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden is going to have... some serious reservations about demon summoning, so some RP there would NOT be a bad plan.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Though, Kanfi being present is also probably a good plan."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Because Kanfi will have his own opinions and needs some chances to argue with everyone more. ;)"

<<OOC>> Brian chuckles.

<<OOC>> Liu says "What might Kanfi be doing that he couldn't make it to the "first round" of talks about the demon summoning? Navigating, setting a course, using Sail mojo?"

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "Yeah, could be that PM is the first he talks to about it? Then talks to Kanfi later or anyone else that has objections?"

<<OOC>> Brian grins and pats. "Kanfi was wenching today. Er. "Comforting the purser." :P Everything else works on Sunday.

<<OOC>> Aidan says "I won't have any objections, probably. But I'm sure that Kanfi will."

Brian [to Diamond Borealis]: You two could certainly talk it out first as a side RP; she has been pretty much the nominal head of the Circle.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "So skipping to some time when PM's allowed all the sailors to rest, one presumes?"

<<OOC>> Diamond Borealis says "Yep. Shall I set?"

<<OOC>> Brian goes thud, then

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden says "Go for it."

Liu has been haunting Diamond's workshop a bit, anyway.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden might be trying to escape the hero worship while she's resting. >_>

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden can trust Diamond at least not to do that! Sure, summon ancient evils best forgotten in to the world, but.

Diamond emerges from his workshop, closing the door behind him. He stretches, twisting one side to the other to work out the stiffness in his back from hunching over scrolls. Ink stains his fingertips and he frowns at the untidy state of his hands. Spotting Liu, he gives her a wave. "Heya, kiddo." He actually seems in better spirits.

Liu pushes herself off the wall next to the door of Diamond's workshop and cocks her head to the side, giving him a little smile. "You've been busy," she observes.

Phoenix Maiden wanders down from above decks, seeking a quiet place away from the sailors while she gets some rest.

Diamond Borealis picks up a damp rag and uses it to wipe his fingers clean of the ink. "I have, yes. I've taught myself a new spell that will be handy for us in the near future. Specifically in dealing with this Sidereal." He tosses the rag back where he picked it up from. He spots the Maiden and waves her over as well. "I take it you two have been busy too?" He really seems not to have heard the stomping and yelling of training that has been going on.

Phoenix Maiden sighs and shrugs, flopping into a seated position on the ground, leaning against the wall. "I thought it would be a good idea to train the sailors to fight; whatever we're sailing into, there's bound to be a trap, and I did promise I'd try to see them through all right."

Liu nods and gives Phoenix Maiden a sympathetic smile -- the woman looks just a little worn at the edges.

Diamond Borealis gives a nod of his head at that. "It is a good idea. We'll need troops who won't break regardless. And if we've got an experienced fighting force going into Harbor Head, that is to our benefit." He pauses, studying the slumped Zenith a moment. "I have a way to improve our efficacy."

Phoenix Maiden nods. "I expect most of our force will be Harborhead natives before we get out of the port, but if we're going to be freeing slaves to form that core, the sailors might be a useful asset to start. If they volunteer." She says that last wryly, fully aware that if she asked, they'd leap. "Improve our efficacy?"

Liu gives Diamond a look of attentive interest, and crosses her thin arms over her chest.

"Yes. For one, I plan to give that Sidereal some trouble without hampering our other efforts." Diamond folds his arms over one another at chest level. He looks to each one, and he knows this is going to be an argument before he even speaks. "I've learned a spell that allows me to summon Demons of the First Circle, and to control them."

Phoenix Maiden nods as Diamond says the thing about giving the Sidereal trouble, but pauses, a hand freezing in mid gesture and descending to the floor to drum on the wooden boards. "A demon," she says, flatly.

Liu bites her bottom lip and looks at Phoenix, who's obviously not as thrilled as Diamond is. Demons sure do sound dangerous, but Diamond seems sure. "What exactly does that mean?" She gives Diamond an open, trusting smile.

Diamond Borealis tips his head forward. "Well, a single demon at a time." He scratches his chin, trying to think how to explain to them both. "Do either of you know much about the Yozi? Other than the fact that we fought them before the First Age, and that when the more powerful ones break into Creation it can be dangerous?"

Liu shakes her head. "I know the strength of my knives and the sweep of my feet. It's your job to take care of the demons." She looks at Phoenix Maiden and shrugs, unconcerned.

Phoenix Maiden snorts. "The more powerful ones? The little ones are only 'safer' in that they can be dominated. Liu, do you remember that librarian thing in the ruins? That tried to trick Kanfi into freeing it with his blood? That's a demon. And while it wasn't much of a threat to us, /it dearly would have liked to be/."

Diamond Borealis fights the urge to dismiss the concern. "Even those of the First Circle can be dangerous to mortals, yes." He admits. Waiting for Liu to respond before going further. He doesn't want to push them on this, bu reason with them.

Liu nods at Phoenix Maiden and wrinkles her nose. "Yeah, I remember that, but his tricks didn't work. The Lintha wanted to be a threat to us too, and I remember us sinking their ship and rescuing their slaves. Let's just hear what Diamond wants to do."

Phoenix Maiden crosses her arms and watches Diamond. "And they can be dangerous to Exalts. Particularly those who think they're beyond the dangers." She gestures vaguely with one hand, without moving the arms; the hand comes back against her upper arm with a slap as she continues. "I don't see any pressing reason for the risks of demon summoning." The tone and pitch is an invitation to present an argument, however.

Diamond Borealis gives a nod of thanks to Liu. He turns back to PM, knowing he's the one he needs to convince. "Look, fire can be dangerous. Wind can be dangerous in a storm. So can gods and elementals for that matter. Now, I'm not suggesting I spend the next couple weeks on the ship summoning a horde of Erymanthoi. That's stupid and careless." Still turning it all around in his mind, he looks for the proper facet. "The Yozi and demons are hierarchical and specialized. Like tools, if you use the correct one for the job, it does the job spectacularly. And not all demons are inimical to mortal life. Where a Sorcerer gets in trouble is summoning the wrong tool. Or not banishing the demon once the task is done."

Liu nods. Diamond make sense. "So you know which tool to use, and how to use it correctly, then."

Phoenix Maiden waves a hand. "Not wind nor elementals nor gods are inherently enemies of creation; dangerous to those who fall afoul of them? Yes. But... Corruption, not destruction, is more of a concern to me. The ease of summoning a demon, the power granted, the temptation to solve other and greater problems with the same tools... which have their own ends in mind."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden is the priest. It's her job to worry about this. ^^;

Grinning to Liu, Diamond lifts a brow and shrugs his shoulders as if to say, "Of course." He then shakes his head slightly at Phoenix Maiden. "Easy? It isn't easy at all. It is a difficult undertaking, and not done lightly. Look, the demon I plan to summon is known as a Muignii. They are wardens, of a sort. Voyeuristic by nature, their goal even if allowed to roam unsupervised would be simply to monitor that which occurs, and to report law-breakers." Better to argue the specific, than the general.

Phoenix Maiden goes back to tapping fingers on the floor. "I don't know, Diamond." She shrugs. "I'd be a lot more comfortable with the idea if I was sure you recognize the same danger I do." She spreads her fingers. "Even a flawed tool can be a useful tool, but you remain careful not to put too much trust in it."

Liu frowns a little. "What would you be using your... tool... for? Flying eyes? What do they watch?"

"Oh, I don't trust them the least little bit." Diamond explains. As if the danger were so obvious he didn't mention it. "The Blood Apes for example, the need to eat fresh blood. Bringing them into Creation is asking for trouble. Like I said, right tool of the job, and sometimes no demon is the right tool; they're too dangerous." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out the slivers of Starmetal. "I'm going to summon one of these Muignii and show them this. Then give it the task of finding all the secret identities of this Sidereal and report those back to me. Once it's done that, I'll destroy it."

Liu shrugs and looks at Phoenix Maiden, unsure about what else to say. She looks back to Diamond and asks, slowly, "Will it know that you'll destroy it? Why would it help you? Won't it try to trick you?"

Phoenix Maiden sighs and spreads both her hands, moving them to her lap. "Summoning demons is not a good habit to get into, but we have an enemy out there we don't know if we can find. I still don't know, but if you can talk everyone else into it, I'll probably not protest."

"It won't know. It's not really intelligent enough for that. As for why it will help me, it has to. When we overthrew the Yozi before the first age, the price of not being destroyed utterly was to swear by their own names and be imprisoned. Another condition was to answer our summons and serve us when we call them. So, no, it won't try to trick me as I'll be giving it a task suited to its nature." Diamond spreads his hands when Phoenix speaks. "I need to speak to Kanfi then."

Phoenix Maiden says dryly, "I think he's still, ah, consoling the bereaved."

Diamond Borealis shrugs his shoulders. "I can't do the summoning until we reach the shore anyway. I'll talk to him once he's not boning the stupid little twit." He doesn't have much respect for the Captain's paramour.
