Leti has a PM muttering rather twitchily at the whole slave thing in her head.

Kanfi eyes his sister and pokes, wondering what all's up.

Leti | PM glares at Kanfi. She's just a nice person who doesn't like to see innocents melted by demons. Have a problem with that?

Ryuutchi | Kanfi has no problems with that, but she's brooding over it way too much. We saved them, you got to smite evil (over my better judgement), and we're safe. Mostly.

Leti | PM makes waspish comments about Kanfi needing to go seduce Seven to make sure he doesn't get rusty. She leaves which he vague.

Brian says "Actually... make a Perception + Socialize roll, Kanfi."

Leti | PM bah!

<ROLL> Ryuutchi rolls 8 dice: <1 4 4 8 8 10 10 10> for 8 successes.

Brian [to Leti]: And have PM make a Manipulation + Socialize roll.

<<OOC>> Leti says, "Socialize? ;_;"

<ROLL> Leti rolls 5 dice: <1 4 5 9 9> for 2 successes.

Brian says "Yup!"

<<OOC>> Leti cry.

<<OOC>> Ryuutchi says, "Gosh!"

You say "You just did that because I said PM had never had to use Socialize, didn't you? =P"

Brian [to Ryuutchi]: Kanfi DEFINITELY notices his sister has ... issues... with slaves. A combination of sympathy and worry on an extremely inimate level.

Brian notes you can sideRP on your own, for the time on-ship.

Ryuutchi | Kanfi lays his hand on Phoenix Maiden's shoulder, definately worried now. His mind is working furiously, making a few connections that he'd been ignoring before...

Phoenix Maiden starts a bit, thoughtful brooding fleeing her face as she glances at her brother. "Hmm?

Kanfi withdraws his hand, not really looking her in the eyes. He's not sure how to approach the subject, or even if this is the appropriate time to do so. "Sister...:

Phoenix Maiden blinks at Kanfi and smooths her expression. "Is something wrong?"

Kanfi arches an eyebrow, and smiles wryly. "Oh, you mean besides the fact that we just fought a bunch of cannibalistic, demonic pirates, and nearly died because a bunch of weird, mystical strings snapped open a portal to a demonic world?" But the smile vanishes as quickly as it came. "Actually, yes."

Phoenix Maiden snorts. "The pirates were just good fun." She waits for the problem, head tilted for listening.

Kanfi shakes his head, then reaches up to toy with a braid that's come unraveled. "Says you. I'm not much one for jumping into battle. Especially since I can't swim." He's sort of avoiding the subject, really, as he tries to come up with a delicate way of phrasing it.

Phoenix Maiden grins lopsidedly. "Neither can I, but it was fun."

Kanfi braids and unbraids the small plait, needing something to do with his hands. "You... didn't look like you were enjoying yourself at the end."

Phoenix Maiden's tone is slightly more guarded as she answers. "Well, demonic incursion, strands of fate trying to drag us down to the bottom of the ocean... Not much that's fun about that."

Kanfi looks up, trying not to feel intimidated-- she's his SISTER. "Not-- Not that. After that. Virt-- Sister," he can't bring himself to really, seriously use her new name, "there was something in your eyes when you were bringing the slaves aboard."

Phoenix Maiden's tone is not quite flat. "Oh. That." She looks up and meets her brother's eyes. "Kanfi, you didn't see that hold. There was a dead slave there; they'd been eating him. I suspect they started while he was alive, from the blood. Cutting little strips out with jagged knives like little party appetizers." Phoenix Maiden's eyes flick aside. "The cruelty of it makes my stomach churn; if they hadn't gotten what they deserved, I'd like to give them worse."

Kanfi swallows hard, not really wanting to imagine the scene, but finding it forming in his mind nevertheless. He squeezes his eyes shut, as though that would rid himself of it, and shakes his head, letting the braids fly out. "There's something you're not telling me!" He's sure of it. Liu didn't have that haunted look.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden fully intended the scene to form in Kanfi's mind, in hopes of distraction. :p

<<OOC>> Kanfi will realize that. When he's not so nervous about confronting her about something really sensitive.

Phoenix Maiden eyes Kanfi. "What would I have to hide?" There's a tightness at the corner of her eyes, oddly akin to fear.

Kanfi licks his lips, slowly, almost waiting for her to answer the question herself. "I don't know," he says, voice taut. His hands fist in the colorful fabric wrapped around his waist, white-knuckled with nervousness. He doesn't really want to upset his sister, not so soon after finding her again. "I was hoping you could tell me." But he also doesn't want secrets hanging between them.

Phoenix Maiden runs her fingers over her head, tugging on one of the looped braids. "I..." She pauses, eying Kanfi, trying to figure out what he knows, how he knows it.

Kanfi tugs at the fabric nervously, watching the way Phoenix Maiden move, the look in her eyes, how her lips tighten and her eyes narrow. That's how he knows it-- sheer habit of picking up information and puzzling at all together, really. He really wants to wait for her to tell him, though, so his shoulders slump and he looks up into her eyes, hopeful and expectant.

Phoenix Maiden sighs and looks aside. "It's not really any of your business."

Kanfi flinches, and reaches out to touch her shoulder. "But it is! You're my sister."

Phoenix Maiden is wooden under the comforting gesture. "I am. But some things tear families apart, and why risk it?" She knows her shame - it's not the sort of thing to make a brother proud.

Kanfi doesn't pull his hand back. If anything, he caresses a little bit more, thumb rubbing gentle circles. "Don't you trust me? I wouldn't ever willingly be parted from you again, my sister." It was hard enough teh first time, wasn't it?

Phoenix Maiden sighs. "You've been away from home for a long time, Kanfi... But some prejudices don't fade. It's probably best to leave things be."

Kanfi withdraws his hand, clasping them in his lap. "Please. I know there's something wrong." He'll begin to imagine the worst, if she doesn't tell him the truth.

Phoenix Maiden closes her eyes. It's hard to keep anything from her brother when he starts this, and she fears his reaction if he knows her shame. But if it's going to come out sooner or later... She opens her eyes again and looks off towards the low ceiling here below the deck, her voice flat and neutral. "I didn't escape," she says, quietly.

Kanfi takes a moment, not comprehending her meaning for a moment, before he recoils in shock. "You-- they--" He takes a deep breath, hoping he's misunderstanding. "You passed under the yoke?"

<<OOC>> Brian says, "You know, once, long, long ago, I never would have found it so much -fun- to add Complication to this Circle."

Phoenix Maiden doesn't trust her voice at the moment, almost shrinking - impossible as that is, towering over Kanfi as she does - as he pulls away. She jerks her chin up once and down again in a terse nod. No point in denying it now she's said it.

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden would like the Storyteller to know that she IS a Zenith, Chosen of the Unconquered Sun, and if there exists in any facet of Creation or the Wyld a Charm that will let her reach out and wreak vengeance on her tormenter, she will find it someday.

Kanfi bites his lips, hunching over. She's right, some prejudices don't fade, and he's fighting with himself-- slaves admitted to cowardice by crawling beneath the yoke. And Virtuous Willow-- then AND now-- is not a coward. "Oh, Ahlat," he murmurs, not looking at her.

Brian [to Kanfi]: As you say "oh, Ahlat," you remember two things.

Brian [to Kanfi]: First of all, Ahlat is no longer your God. He's more like a senior VP in a different bureau of a company.

Brian [to Kanfi]: Second of all, your current God, the Unconquered Sun, chose your sister to be a Zenith. A leader. An inspiration. It does beg the question... why? And when? What happened between then and now?

<<OOC>> Brian goes back into storyteller secrecy.

Phoenix Maiden doesn't bother to protest, to point out she was little older than him and no one rescued her and took her away. Prejudices don't fade, and she has them too. There is no excuse for her shame - but she was chosen by the Sun, despite her shame, and the honor of that is undeniable.

Phoenix Maiden shrugs after a long moment. "Our people are no Lintha, but the sympathy I feel is more personal that I would like. You have your truth. Are you happier for it, brother?" She looks over at her brother sadly. "You shouldn't have pushed."

Kanfi knows all that. It's logical. Laid out, the facts all add up to mean he shouldn't care what the raiders did-- they hurt her and that was more than enough. But some little seed that was planted in his childhood and never strangled out by his trips to new lands whispers ugly things about slaves. He tugs on a loose plait, pulling the bead out. "Sister... I..." He throws himself into her arms. "No," he whispers, "but I'm glad I know it. Now it's out where the light of the sun can show us how to deal with the pain."

<<OOC>> Kanfi says, "Drama whore. My character is a fucking drama whore."

<<OOC>> Phoenix Maiden points out it's her character with the 2 point Secret. :p

<<OOC>> Brian says, "MuahahahahahhAHAHahAHAHHAahAaHAHaHAhahahahheeepassoutfromlackofoxygen."

Phoenix Maiden is ...surprised, at Kanfi's embrace. She had been expecting him to pull further away. Her instinctive reaction is to wrap her arms around him protectively; her little brother is upset, and it is what she must do.

Kanfi kisses her cheek. "Whatever stupid thing I feel like I should be thinking, you're the strongest person I have ever known," he declares, utterly melodramatic. And yet, the words were serious.

Phoenix Maiden pats Kanfi on the back. "Thank you, brother."

Kanfi hesitantly lets go, looking a little worried she'll try to run away. Not that there are many places to run to on a ship. He smiles a little and leans up to give her another peck on the cheek.

Phoenix Maiden lays a hand on top of Kanfi's head. "Little brother. This isn't easy. Prejudices aren't easy to lose - for me, either, you know." She moves her hand forward, fingers resting where Kanfi's castemark would glow, if he were to ignite it. "I have a shame; I have an honor. It is my opinion the honor is the greater of the two, and thus I continue."

Kanfi tilts his head to the side, almost nuzzling her fingertips. "I don't know what to think. So for now," he blushed a little, admitting to his coping strategy, "let me pretend that everything is alright. I need to figure it out. But I won't leave. That I promise."

Phoenix Maiden nods briefly, withdrawing her hand and knotting it with the other. "Yeah..." She smiles faintly.

Kanfi brushes her hands with his fingertips. "I'm going to go check and make sure everything's running smoothly, okay?" By which he meant he was going to find a corner to curl up in and think.

Phoenix Maiden lifts a hand and waves briefly. "Okay." She needs to think herself.

Kanfi nods and slips away to find himself a nice little thinking spot.
