Mozilla is: a) saying "oh, these security flaws aren't really security flaws" and b) saying "People should responsibly confidentially tell us about these problems."

Hi, Microsoft redux?

I believe any browser would prefer to be told privately about security flaws to be given a chance to fix them, but if, like Microsoft, their attitude is that it's not a problem until the flaw is public knowledge...

(This is me, loving Opera, oh yeah. Have they had any major security fixes in 9 at all? You decide.)

From the 9.02 changelog:

Security

  • Fixed an OpenSSL RSA signature verification flaw. See the advisory.

From the 9.01 changelog... well, there are no security headed fixes in 9.01, so scratch that. A very disappointed muppet count, I'm afraid; only one security fix.

Please note that such fix is actually an OpenSSL flaw which also caught Firefox, if you poke around those links.

I have never heard Opera whining about "We don't know if it's really a problem." They just fix it. Thank you, Opera.

Edited to add: Oh, and how long as Opera had inline spell checking available? It was around in at least version 8...

IE chases Firefox chases Opera.

"The new theme for the Firefox 2 interface has a cleaner look, resembling Opera 9, with similar Web feed features, rounded buttons, and more opalescence, Mozilla said."

Oh, gee, they've also created a 'undo closed tab' feature. And provided the option to have a 'close' button on the tab. I'm not sure if it's an option or the rule from this article; Opera, typically, lets you choose.

I have nothing against Firefox, but it aggravates me when people talk about its innovative features as if, you know, they're the only browser in the world to come up with these things.
